  • This is just so awesome for chess, for the development of the participants, for the audience and the future chess players who see their favorite streamer playing. I cannot imagine how positive the effect will be for the future - thousands of excited watchers seeing these star personalities develop a joy for the game. It's bloody contagious. What's more, to see the improvement of these players just brings a smile to my face. Chess, aside from being a beautiful game, can be intimidating to the journeyman. Watching these famous players venture bravely into the game, make mistakes, make great moves, learn, improve, and pursue excellence is precisely what the game is about. It's a life lesson in a way, and something in which everyone should find beauty. I cannot believe there is a part of the chess elite that insults these people. It's just reprehensible. Pogchamps is a great reflection of how the layman plays chess - and this lets the everyman embody themselves in the game, and find interest in its beauty. Keep at it. This is awesome.

  • As someone who doesn't like chess much, i like pogchamps. People play moves that i can understand, and you never know the outcome of a game in advance, even if someone has a good lead over his opponent. And the fact that players are known streamers, and/or minor celebrities, is entertaining in itself.

So it's hard to tell what he's doing half the time and it also makes it hard that we don't know what hes looking at. I bet that if he drew arrows, and also looked at his developed pieces more, he would. win that match against xqc.

Playing not the best but the worst and showing pure determination and skill without even having the skills masters have is one of the greatest things i love about chess. Anyone who has been in a chess tournament knows this feeling, you can see it in his queen blunder when he took the bishop on e5. You can see it in his face, after the check 8:31. He believed he was lost that's why he didn't see the bishop block on c6 after the queen check.

    • Early middle games and time management is his weakest part I think. In some positons it's not easy to come up with a gameplay so it's perfectly understandable. You can tell he gets a little confused when a lot of pieces are still on the board and he isn't sure how he can make progress. For that reason he tends to burn a lot of time and overthink his candidate moves. On the other hand, he is super solid in the endgames. He plays well, calculates flawlessly and is always aware of the other player's threat. Openings/early middlegame he is still at 950-1100 level but some of his endgames are close to 1500+.

    • @William Wallace Actually, before the tournament started, he grinded chess offline and got to 1250 or something, all by his own with no coaching. He got in a nasty lose streak when he played a bunch of games on stream, and that's why he is sitting at 1050 right now. So he really is quite decent to be honest. And obviously, decent in the context of this tournament. Nobody is saying he is master level or anything.
